With the help of global positioning, a database of 50.000 locations, and updated weather reports for the whole of Norway, Dagbladet.no has created one of the world’s most advanced personal weather services. The service is one of the first to take advantage of new possibilities for carrying out automatic positioning of the user via textmelding sent through Telenor’s mobile net.

The user just sends in a simple text message. That becomes his first bearing. Next a weather report is calculated for that exact point. After that, we find out the name of the location nearest to where the user finds himself. Finally we pack the whole thing together into a text message and send it out to the user.

ViaNett AS has been directly involved in the project as underprovider, developing communication with DB Medialab’s positioning service.
